PROJECT: BULK HANDLING TERMINAL
Bulk
commodities, principally coal, are delivered to the terminal in
ocean-going vessels up to cape class in size. Commodities are unloaded
by continuos ship unloaders conveyed to ground storage and later
reclaimed for train or truck loading. Bulk commodities which must
be handled uncontaminated by other commodities are diverted to covered
storage. Coal is shipped from the terminal by rail, other commodities
by truck.
Principal Features:
- Annual throughput: 5 million tonnes coal and 2 million tonnes
other commodities
- A 640 m long double berth quay and a dredged pocket to accommodate
cape class vessels, with a capability of unloading two ships simultaneously
without mixing cargoes.
- 550,000 ton stockpile capability with yard machines consisting
of a traveling stacker, a stacker reclaimer and a bucketwheel
reclaimer.
- Handling capacity into storage is 4000 t/h and 2500 t/h from
storage to train loading.
- Material is conveyed through a 560M long tunnel under the River
Avon, from inside the storage yard to a rail loadout station.
- Loadout station features two 2,000 ton silos enabling trains
to fully load in 15 minutes.
- Extensive environmental controls including enclosed conveying
systems, stockpile spray system and wind barriers around the storage
yard perimeter.
